BHUTAN'S TOURISM POLICY
Bhutan is one of the world’s most exclusive travel destinations, renowned for its authenticity, pristine environment, and well-preserved cultural heritage. The Royal Government of Bhutan adheres to a “High Value, Low Volume” tourism policy, ensuring sustainability and exclusivity.
Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)
To preserve Bhutan’s culture, environment, and infrastructure, all tourists pay a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF):
USD $100 per person per night (for USD-paying tourists).
50% discount for children aged 6–12 years.
Nu. 1,200 per person per night (for Indian tourists).
Exemptions: Children under 5, day tourists not traveling beyond designated points.
Visa Requirements
Valid passport (6 months from departure date).
Travel insurance.
Passport-sized photograph.
Visa Fee: USD 40 per person (non-refundable).
